The
Condominium Manual, Second Edition by Mike Mangan
The Association has found this book to be very helpful
when fielding enquiries about condo problems. We have recommended to many
Councils that they acquire a copy. Almost everything you need to know about the
vexing problems of pet bylaws, rentals, limited common property, collection of
fees, etc. were described in a readable and straightforward way in the first
edition. We have not seen the new edition but expect that it will be as clearly
written and reliable as the first edition.
The author says that the book contains sixty pages of new
information, including recent case law, which will give the reader a clear
understanding of how the Strata Property Act, regulations and standard bylaws
work. It answers these questions and many more:
Who must contribute to an
expense?
Who is responsible for repairs?
Can the bylaws restrict rentals
and pets?
What is the role of strata
corporations, council and property managers?
What are the requirements for
record keeping, meetings and voting?
Unfortunately, the book has been out of print for a year
or so and we were told last year that a second edition was on the way. It is
now about to be printed and the publisher, the B.C. Real Estate Association, is
taking orders. The first edition was hard to find. Chapters carried it for a
while but the most reliable method of getting a copy was to order it directly
from the B.C.R.E.A. This is still the
most reliable way of getting a copy. The cost is about $50.00 but is about $5.00
cheaper if you can get a realtor to order it for you. If you want a copy,
please contact the B.C.R.E.A. at 604 683-7702 or this office for additional
details (604 538-8888).
