Volunteer Centre Opens at Peace Arch Community
Services
Peace Arch Community
Services (PACS) is a community-based non-profit organization, which, since
1978, has been providing a wide range of services to individuals and groups in White
Rock, Surrey and Delta. Peace Arch Community Services is fully accredited
through the Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services.
Peace Arch Community
Services (PACS) has served the Peninsula for over 28 years.
Some of the services provided are: residential programs, counseling, family services, infant
development, tThe Food food Bankbank, eEmployment
resources, iInformation and and rReferral
and Adult adult Servicesservices.
As
many of these programs needed volunteers in order to run, Volunteer
and Information Services was conceived, 27 years ago.
Valerie Weherle Over time, Manager
manager
of Information
and Volunteer Services, Valerie Weherle,
recognized over
time that many skilled potential volunteers were not adequately served,
as their particular skills and expertise did not match existing positions at
PACS. In
response to the growing need to place these volunteers in appealing volunteer
roles PACS officially opened its the door of, Volunteer
the
Peninsula, November 24th,
2006. The volunteer centre is a
one-stop -shopping
opportunity for people wishing to volunteer in the South Fraser
areas of South Surrey, White Rock and Cloverdale.; but Some of these would-be
volunteers may
not know where to start.
When potential volunteers meet with the Volunteer
Centre’s Coordinator, Susan Langhorst, they are often surprised at the ease
with which a suitable volunteer match is made. Friendly conversation is just
one of the assessment tools used at the centre to determine a volunteer’s
particular skills and areas of interest. Once
the areas of interest are revealed it is a matter of matching these skills with
available positions with-in Member Agencies.
Volunteer the Peninsula is very happy to welcome
one of its newest members, the Pacific Condominium Association of B.C..
Operating on a very limited yearly annual budget necessitates use of of volunteers
to ensure the Association runs smoothly. Some of the jobs currently
needing volunteer expertise are:
Publication Assistant, Office Assistant, Government’t LiasonLiaison, Promotion
and Marketing.
If you are interested in discussing these positions
or interesting spots with other organizations please call Susan Langhorst and
she will be delighted to help you find a perfect volunteer position; Volunteer
